Leo uses painting as a means towards exploring Cuban identity, using the human figure and its body language as a vehicle to connect the public with his culture and heritage.

Meet the artist & maker

Leo Morey is a Cuban painter born in 1995 in the city of Matanzas. He is a graduate of the Fine Art Academy "Diego Querol". After graduation Leo started producing a series of self portraits bringing up social issues in contemporary Cuba. In 2018 Leo moved to York and two years later he started the series "Cuba a flor de piel", an intimate collection of paintings inspired by experiences and memories of his home country.

This is the first year that Leo Morey has exhibited at York Open Studios
