Philip Magson 75

Aspiring to rustic simplicity, tactile qualities of clay and glaze are paramount. Contemporary shapes retain earthy roughness. Mixed stoneware clay is hand thrown and finished with a smooth white glaze.

Open from MIDDAY on Sundays to allow normal church service to go ahead in the morning.

Exhibiting in 2019

Medium: Ceramics

Meet the artist & maker

Following a degree in 3D Design at Loughborough College of Art, Philip began making pots in Liverpool, producing garden terracotta. The pottery evolved into colourfully decorated domestic white earthenware made in Micklegate in York. Also teaching art, Philip now throws utilitarian items in his own blended stoneware, pared down to simple but striking forms and part glazed in white.

This is the first year that Philip Magson has exhibited at York Open Studios
