Throughout York City Centre Sam Edward has scattered small concrete sculptures, 'Monuments'. These Monuments resemble Obelisks, Monoliths, and Memorials but scaled down. These 'Miniature Monuments' memorialise moments from York. Edward has snatched overheard conversations, and appropriated text from and about York. They have been etched into the Sculptures, in an attempt to commemorate the time we are living in.
In the studio you will find the production behind 'Miniature Monuments', how they are made and see the process live as an ongoing work.

Sam Edward is a Socially Engaged Public Text Artist, their work is focused on people, ordinary people and their problems. Edward's work often becomes political, they believe this is a fairly natural consultation for an art practice that is so rooted in people. Edwards believes that public domain is the best way to view work, and engage with an audience. They believe art should fit in and reflect everyday life, not be an escape from it.
This is the first year that Sam Edward has exhibited at York Open Studios
