Can you help?

Could you be one of the people who help to deliver York’s biggest visual arts festival every year? We are inviting new members to join our small and friendly team and ensure that York Open Studios continues to enhance York’s cultural calendar.

You don’t need to be an artist to be part of the team – our band includes enthusiastic members of the public who are keen to see this popular event return each year.

After a challenging couple of years we are holding our biggest event ever in 2022 and are looking forward to a bright and exciting future.

The list below shows the main responsibilities that we hope new members will cover in due course, after an introductory period of working alongside those doing these things now.Social media
Looking after our social media accounts, processing contributions, writing posts, answering comments.

General administration and communication
Maintaining artist databases, keeping in touch with artists and the general public, feedback forms and artist reports.

Advertising and publicity
Placing our advertising and publicity in printed and online publications, receiving advertising placed in our directory, liaising with our PR consultant.

Adding content and images and liaising with our website providers. The practicalitiesTo avoid misunderstanding we should make it clear now that we are all volunteers and these are unpaid roles. Our reward comes from the (considerable) satisfaction of delivering a successful festival and knowing how much York Open Studios is valued by both artists and visitors.

We meet one evening a month to make our plans and we communicate in between by email and via shared documents on Google. (During lockdown we met by Zoom). Regular and confident use of email is essential, and reasonable computer literacy is needed for all roles. A basic familiarity with spreadsheets (Excel) would be helpful if taking on admin tasks but we can offer help to get the hang of this if needed.

If you would like to hear more please email Jane at for further information (absolutely no obligation at this stage!).
We look forward to welcoming new faces.
