What a night! Ok, so we didn't win, we lost to the brilliant TakeOver Festival. However, the Awards were brilliant with Gorgey Spanswick hosting from BBC Radio and live music from Accessible arts & Media IMPs project and the York Theatre Royal Choir..
We shmoozed with some fabulous people (and Mark Addy!) who collectively make York an amazingly cultural city to live in and visit. I have to say, the hard work and success of all the organisations touched my heart strings, showing dedication, selflessness and pure motivation to promote and/or help others. We have a very rich, cultural society in our little town and being a part of these awards really made me realise what a brilliant city we live in!

Wow! We have been shortlisted in the Cultural Event or Festivals category of the York Culture Awards, how exciting!
York Culture Awards are organised by Make It York , their aim is to market York and the surrounding areas as a vibrant and attractive place for people to visit and live. They don’t just look at events and festivals but also leisure, business and city centre management to name a few.
So YOS has been invited to a brand new awards ceremony organised by York Culture Awards to celebrate excellence in the arts sector that York has to offer. The Awards look to reward outstanding innovation, creativity and quality in local businesses and organisations. They hope that this event will motivate York’s cultural scene and make it stronger.
We are very honoured to be attending such a prestigious event. Wish us luck!

Anne Hutchison who was chair and founder of YOS has retired from her duties on the YOS committee. Anne has been integral to the growth and strength of the event, leading it to where it is now, of over 100 artists exhibiting in the 2017 event. Anne's spirit and knowledge will always be apart of the event. Even though Anne will not be apart of organising YOS, she will be taking part and exhibiting her work in 2017.
To takeover Anne's enormous role of chair, our very own social media guru, Beccy Ridsdel, has stepped up to take on the task of organising and overseeing the preparation of the ever growing, multi-faceted event, York Open Studios. We are positive Beccy can take YOS to new heights in the years to come.

Over the last few months there have been three new members chosen to join our committee, they are;
Jo Bagshaw - Advertising Organiser
Rebecca Carr - Exhibitions and Workshops Coordinator, and
Marcia Fleming - Treasurer
Although we are sad to say goodbye to Peter Donohoe and Jonathan French, who have been amazing committee members over the years, we are very much welcoming the Jo, Rebecca and Marcia to the team and we look forward to working with them.
Artists who are selected for the 2017 event will be able to meet the new committee members at the october meeting.
...Are now live! Check it out! If you are frequent visitors to these pages you will notice there have been some changes; the artist pages now have larger photos, more detailed information about venues and a selection of nearby artists. These are amoung some of the things we have changed, not to mention the interactive Map of york for smart device users on the go (and desktop users alike!) to create a better viewing/visiting experience of YOS 2017. Enjoy!
