About

York Open Studios is an annual community arts event providing an opportunity for the public to visit artists’ studios and workshops within a ten-mile radius of the city centre, showcasing some of the best artists and makers in the city.

We have always interpreted “Open Studios” as the opportunity for artists to literally open their studio doors to the public. This allows visitors to experience not only the finished artworks but also the creative process, personal studio spaces, and the environment in which art is made. Artists may display a selection of tools and materials or even demonstrate their skills or methods when you visit. There are a wide variety of artists and makers working across a range of disciplines including ceramics, furniture, glass, jewellery, painting, photography, and much more.

Each year we invite current third year degree students from York College University Centre and York St John University to take part in our Student Showcase. We also offer bursaries for multi-media artists to take part in the event.
